  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp almond extract
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 cup diced apples (peeled)
  • ¾ cup chopped dates
  • ¼ cup sliced or chopped almonds

For the Butter Sauce

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

1. Prepare the Cake Batter

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish or round cake pan.
  3. In a bowl, whisk flour, almond flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. In another bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  5. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla and almond extract.
  6. Mix in dry ingredients alternately with milk until just combined.
  7. Fold in apples, dates, and almonds.

2. Bake

  • Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top.
  • Bake 35–40 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

3. Make the Butter Sauce

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter.
  2. Stir in brown sugar and cream.
  3. Simmer 4–5 minutes, stirring constantly until smooth and slightly thickened.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and salt.

4. Serve

  • Spoon warm butter sauce generously over slices of cake.
  • Serve warm or at room temperature.
