  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk (or milk + 1 tsp vinegar)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (or neutral oil)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp almond extract (optional)
  • 1/4 cup rainbow sprinkles (jimmies-style)

For the glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Extra sprinkles, for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a donut pan.
  2. Make the batter:
    • In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
    • In another bowl, whisk buttermilk, egg, melted butter, vanilla, and almond extract.
    • Stir wet ingredients into dry until just combined. Fold in sprinkles.
  3. Fill the pan:
    • Spoon or pipe the batter into the donut cavities, filling each about 3/4 full.
  4. Bake:
    • Bake for 10–12 minutes or until lightly golden and springy to the touch.
    • Let cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  5. Glaze & decorate:
    • Mix powdered sugar with milk and vanilla until smooth. Dip cooled donuts into glaze, then add sprinkles. Let set.
