For the donuts:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup buttermilk (or milk + 1 tsp vinegar)
- 1 large egg
- 2 tbsp melted butter (or neutral oil)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp almond extract (optional)
- 1/4 cup rainbow sprinkles (jimmies-style)
For the glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tbsp milk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- Extra sprinkles, for topping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a donut pan.
- Make the batter:
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk buttermilk, egg, melted butter, vanilla, and almond extract.
- Stir wet ingredients into dry until just combined. Fold in sprinkles.
- Fill the pan:
- Spoon or pipe the batter into the donut cavities, filling each about 3/4 full.
- Bake:
- Bake for 10–12 minutes or until lightly golden and springy to the touch.
- Let cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
- Glaze & decorate:
- Mix powdered sugar with milk and vanilla until smooth. Dip cooled donuts into glaze, then add sprinkles. Let set.
