Description

These Puff Pastry Apple Roses Tarts are elegant, bakery-style treats made by rolling thin apple slices into beautiful rose shapes and wrapping them in buttery puff pastry.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Apple Roses

  • 2 red apples (Honeycrisp, Gala, or Pink Lady work best)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp melted butter (optional for extra richness)

For the Pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 23 tbsp apricot jam or apple jelly
  • 1 tbsp water (to thin the jam)

For Dusting

  • Powdered sugar (optional)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Apples

  1. Cut apples in half, remove cores, and slice thinly (⅛-inch).
  2. Place slices in a microwave-safe bowl with lemon juice and enough water to cover.
  3. Microwave 3 minutes until soft and flexible.
  4. Drain and pat dry.
  5. Mix sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over apples.

2. Prep the Puff Pastry

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Roll out puff pastry slightly and cut into 6 long strips.
  3. Warm jam with water until spreadable.
  4. Brush each strip with a thin layer of jam.

3. Assemble Apple Roses

  1. Lay apple slices along the top edge of each pastry strip, overlapping slightly, with rounded edges sticking out above the pastry.
  2. Fold the bottom half of the pastry strip up to cover the base of the apples.
  3. Roll the strip gently from one end to the other, forming a rose shape.
  4. Place each rose in a muffin tin cup to hold shape.

4. Bake

  • Bake 35–40 minutes, until pastry is puffed and golden.
  • If apples brown too quickly, tent lightly with foil.

5. Serve

  • Cool slightly.
  • Dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

  • Red apples create the prettiest rose effect due to their color.
  • You can substitute apricot jam with honey or maple syrup.
  • Brush roses with melted butter before baking for a deeper color.
