Ingredients
Scale
For the Apple Roses
- 2 red apples (Honeycrisp, Gala, or Pink Lady work best)
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp melted butter (optional for extra richness)
For the Pastry
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 2–3 tbsp apricot jam or apple jelly
- 1 tbsp water (to thin the jam)
For Dusting
- Powdered sugar (optional)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Apples
- Cut apples in half, remove cores, and slice thinly (⅛-inch).
- Place slices in a microwave-safe bowl with lemon juice and enough water to cover.
- Microwave 3 minutes until soft and flexible.
- Drain and pat dry.
- Mix sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over apples.
2. Prep the Puff Pastry
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out puff pastry slightly and cut into 6 long strips.
- Warm jam with water until spreadable.
- Brush each strip with a thin layer of jam.
3. Assemble Apple Roses
- Lay apple slices along the top edge of each pastry strip, overlapping slightly, with rounded edges sticking out above the pastry.
- Fold the bottom half of the pastry strip up to cover the base of the apples.
- Roll the strip gently from one end to the other, forming a rose shape.
- Place each rose in a muffin tin cup to hold shape.
4. Bake
- Bake 35–40 minutes, until pastry is puffed and golden.
- If apples brown too quickly, tent lightly with foil.
5. Serve
- Cool slightly.
- Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
- Red apples create the prettiest rose effect due to their color.
- You can substitute apricot jam with honey or maple syrup.
- Brush roses with melted butter before baking for a deeper color.
