Ingredients

  • 1 cup jasmine rice (or any white rice)
  • 68 cups water or chicken broth
  • 23 chicken thighs or drumsticks (bone-in preferred for flavor)
  • 34 slices fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, lightly crushed
  • 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients

Before cooking:

  • Rinse the rice thoroughly until water runs clear
  • Slice ginger and garlic
  • Clean and portion the chicken

Step 2: Cook the Broth

In a large pot:

  • Add chicken, ginger, and garlic
  • Pour in water or broth
  • Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer

Let it cook for about 20–30 minutes until the chicken is tender.

Step 3: Add the Rice

  • Remove chicken temporarily
  • Add rinsed rice into the broth
  • Stir well to prevent sticking

Step 4: Simmer Slowly

Cook on low heat for 45–60 minutes:

  • Stir occasionally
  • Add water if it thickens too much

The rice should begin to break down into a creamy texture.

Step 5: Shred the Chicken

  • Remove cooked chicken
  • Shred into small pieces
  • Return it to the pot

Step 6: Season and Finish

Add:

  • Salt to taste
  • A splash of soy sauce
  • A drizzle of sesame oil

Stir everything together and let it simmer briefly.

Step 7: Serve
